What is sports and remedial massage?

Sports and remedial massage is a set of techniques used to relieve muscle tension and improve musculoskeletal functionality — in other words, to get that sore muscle group to behave itself, hurt less, and let you move more easily. Restoring the flexibility and efficiency of your muscles can also benefit your joint health.

Is this massage painful?

While it is intended to release muscle tension efficiently and can at times be uncomfortable, it is up to you to control the level of discomfort you are happy to tolerate. I believe this kind of massage is meant to make you feel better after the treatment, not during it — and only you know the right amount of pressure for you in the moment.

What should I wear?

Most clients wear whatever suits the rest of their day — there is no need for anything specific. You will be asked to take everything off except underwear, and your body will be covered with a fresh towel throughout, except for the part being worked on (leg, neck, back, etc.).

What can I do to get the most out of it?

Be well hydrated before and after (but not so much that you have to dash off the couch mid-treatment). Try not to schedule an extreme workout directly before or after. Expect the maximum benefit about two days later, though immediate relief and increased mobility are common too.
